The Society for the Protection of Animals (SPA) Canada has criticized the reaction of Minister Julie Boulet to the controversial report on Quebec rodeos unveiled yesterday from opponent and Université de Montréal Law professor Alain Roy.
Minister Boulet had reiterated her trust towards the organising committee of the St. Tite Western Festival, that takes place in her own constituency of Laviolette.
Minister Boulet, also Minister responsible for the Mauricie region, had declared that the festival organisation made it a point to put into place best practices respecting animal rights.
Ministers Julie Boulet and Laurent Lessard reacted Tuesday to the publication of the report against rodeos in Quebec.
‘’It is inconceivable to make the suffering of an animal a public attraction.’’ Élise Moreau, communications officer at the SPA Canada, deplores.
The SPA Canada says that the only solution to stop the suffering of these animals is to eradicate all rodeo shows.
The organisation for the protection of animals supports the report signed by the veterinarian doctor Jean-Jacques Kona-Boun that qualifies as ‘’illegal’’ the practices surrounding rodeos activities.
His 600 page report argues that these practices go against Quebec law.
