October: Month for the Fight Against the Discrimination of Black Cats

SPA Canada and Black Cat SEO join to support black cats

Ottawa October 9, 2020 – The Society for the Protection of Animals (SPA) Canada and Black Cat SEO have joined their efforts for the month of October in a campaign to destroy the bias against black cats and to promote their adoption rates.

Partnership between Black Cat SEO and SPA Canada
SPA Canada and Black Cat SEO, a leader of Web Referencing in Canada, are proud to announce their partnership in an awareness campaign during the month of October that will be renewed every year to fight the bias against black cats.

October, Black Cat Month

Black cats have long been associated to negative beliefs. SPA Canada and (well named) Black Cat SEO want to destroy those bias against these creatures and remind people that, “as with people, we should not judge cats based on their colour”, said Dominique Routhier, acting director and animal biologist for SPA Canada.

A little bit of history
Black cats have long been associated to magic and witches. Because of their colour, black cats have been a symbol of the world of darkness and have been considered as devil’s creatures. “Even now, these myths survive, since 13% of the people are afraid of running into a black cat because of their superstitions”, said Antonin, Black Cat SEO’s president.

During this special month, SPA Canada posts on its website an overview of cats’ history, especially black cats, which has increased the negative beliefs about them, even if there are also associated to positive beliefs.
Promoting the adoption of black cats

Today, even if black cats are not associated to the myths of witches, negative bias still exist. Everybody know that black cats are unfortunately the least to be adopted, and the first to be euthanized when the shelters are full. Black cats stay in the shelters 24% longer than the other cats. Yet, a cat is a cat, no matter it be white, black or grey! SPA Canada and Black Cat SEO are joining this month for the Fight against the discrimination of black cats to destroy the myths about them as well as to promote the adoption of these adorable companions.

Let’s narrow the adoption gap for black cats!
