Press release: February 14 not to be missed: activists drenched in blood and locked in a cage as part of the 32nd National Anti-Fur Day!

Montreal, February 13th, 2020 – The society for the Protection of Animals (SPA) Canada and the organization Ma Voix pour Eux invite you to the 32nd edition of National Anti-Fur Day, February 14th, 2020, in front of Downtown TheBay *, in Montreal, Quebec.

At noon on February 14th, there will be a media stunt against the fur industry as part of National Fur Day. This event, organized by SPA Canada and the organization Ma Voix pour Eux, organizes a media stunt in order to denounce the cruelty of the fur industry, while encouraging the public to boycott it.

What to expect

Activists with fur coats drenched in blood representing animals used in the fur industry will be trapped in a cage. On site, several awareness posters will be available for participants.

A cruel declining industry

Each year in Canada, more than 3 million animals are killed for their fur. 75% of them are foxes and minks. The fur industry is cruel and barbaric. The animals are kept in small cages and in disease-infected places. They are killed in excruciating circumstances, without any compassion. Those trapped in the wild often suffer a long and painful death. This is without mentioning all the other animal species caught in the traps by mistake such as dogs, cats, birds and wild animals which are not on the regulatory list of animals for trapping.

“The fur industry is the worst there is. It is completely immoral to make animals suffer, simply to be in fashion! There are so many other ways to keep warm, in a completely ethical way. Let’s boycott the fur industry!” encourages Dominique Routhier, Acting Director General and animal biologist for SPA Canada.

“More and more fur businesses are closing their doors due to a dizzying fall in sales. Consumers prefer not to encourage animal cruelty.” adds Ms. Routhier.

* The event was to take place outside the offices of the Canadian Fur Council, but its definite closure today forced the organizers to find a new target. It is for this reason that the media stunt  will be held in front of the downtown location of The Bay (on Sainte-Catherine, between Union and place Phillips, in Montreal, QC), SPA Canada’s new national target for its campaign against the fur industry.
